| T&T Salvages sunken Drydock in Texas City |
![]() |
|
T&T Marine Salvage, Inc. of Galveston, Texas was initially contacted to survey and refloat a sunken drydock at a Texas City shipyard in June 2008. T&T Marine divers surveyed the dock and it was determined that the drydock would not survive a refloating operation due to its deteriorated condition. The 192' x 96' dock displaced nearly 1,200 tons and was in a location that had very limited access. T&T devised a plan to cut the dock into three sections that could be easily handled by two heavy lift derricks. T&T Marine crane barges Curtis T and George T were utilized to run the rigging under the wreck. Lifting straps consisting of 4' wide steel plate were used instead of the usual wire rope slings. Three inch anchor chains were pulled under the wreck in the location where each cut was to be made.

Derrick Barge "BIG T" sets quarters under heliport on "INTREPID" |
![]() |
T&T Marine's 600 ton Derrick Barge "BIG T" has completed the installation of a 130 ton quarters module aboard Helix's DSV "INTREPID". The installation was accomplished in May 2008 even though the quarters had to be set underneath the heliport. Slots were cut in the deck of the heliport to accommodate the rigging which held the module. The old quarters were slung, removed, and set on a deck barge. The old quarters were only one deck high. The new quarters were significantly larger as well as two decks high. The new module was slung with a spreader bar arrangement, lifted from the deck barge, and inched into place under the heliport. When set in place, there was not one inch of vertical clearance. |

Jib installed on T&T Marine's Derrick Barge "BIG T" |
![]() |
T&T Marine Salvage, Inc. announces the installation and certification of a 40' jib aboard the 600-ton Derrick Barge "BIG T". The jib was installed in January 2008 and has been load tested to 220 short tons. This provides the jib with a certified lifting capacity of 200 short tons. The first job for the jib was the installation of four rebuilt jackup legs aboard the "DOLPHIN 110". The 100-ton, 140' leg sections had to be lifted 30' above the surface of the water where they were mated with the existing leg sections. The 40' jib, built on top of the 150' main boom of the "BIG T" provides the Gulf Coast with new heavy lift height capabilities enabling customers more flexibility working on semi-submersibles, jackups, ships, and other large projects. |
