T&T Marine Salvage, Inc. was deeply involved in the Hurricane Katrina Response Operations immediately following the passage of Katrina. T&T Marine worked in conjunction with U.S Navy Supervisor of Salvage, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, and various state and local governments.
T&T Marine was a member of the Waterways Recovery Task Force which was charged with opening the waterways and removing marine debris that posed a hazard to navigation or a pollution threat.
Our Mobile Command Center was initially stationed at the Belle Chasse Naval Air Station immediately after the storm in support of the Coast Guard's Rescue Helicopters as they rescued stranded victims from flooded New Orleans.
T&T Salvage Masters responded tne day after Katrina passed assessing damage and prioritizing casualties. Salvage Masters were initially stationed at the Incident Command Center in Alexandria, LA, the Air Station in Belle Chasse, the Air Station in Houma, LA, and with T&T's 600 ton Derrick Barge "BIG T" in Venice, LA.
T&T Marine was proud to be a part of the response and to help those hit so hard by the storm. T&T's Derrick Barge "BIG T" and the Crane Barge "GEORGE T" were immediaetly mobilized to New Orleans and from there directed to Venice, LA by the task force. T&T's crews worked to open up Venice and from there proceeded to Empire, LA where the procedure was repeated.
T&T crews and equipment were in Louisiana for six months and one of our Salvage Masters continued in the command center until May of 2006.
